Women Veterans Honored On Important Anniversary

Lady Veterans Connect honored women veterans during the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act.  The act was signed by President Harry S. Truman in 1948.  The act granted women the right to serve as permanent members of the Armed Services for the first time.  Currently, there are more than two-million women veterans in the United States.  The celebration program was held in the Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort on Saturday, June 10, 2023.  Featured speakers included Brigadier General Hope Rampy, who currently serves as the Director, Military Personnel Management for the U.S. Army at the Pentagon.  Elizabeth Helm-Frazier, Army Master Sergeant (Ret.), who devoted 25-years of her life to service.  She is a strong supporter of the 6888th Postal Battalion project.  Nicole Harmon-Horseman, Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class (Ret.), who served as part of the U.S. Navy Seabees.  She is a life legacy member of the VFW, and the Department Judge Advocate.  She is an active member of the VFW Bluegrass Post 680 and a tremendous supporter of the Lexington Fisher House.  Veteran Anna Mills also spoke at the event.  She is a Public Affairs Specialist with the Lexington VA Health Care System.  Congressman Andy Barr, of Lexington, also spoke as did Kentucky Representative Bill Wesley of the 91st District.  The Mistress of Ceremonies was Heather French Henry, a former Miss America and Miss Kentucky, former Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs and former Friends of Lexington Fisher House Board Member.  The Kentucky National Guard’s 202nd Army Band provided music for the event.  After the ceremony, attendees were invited to a private Kentucky Historical Society Women’s Veterans Exhibit titled, “Our Service – Our Stories:  Kentucky Women Veterans.”  The exhibit is scheduled to open to the public at the historical society located at 100 W. Broadway in Frankfort on June 13, 2023.  For more information about Lady Veterans Connect, call 859-806-4297 or visit www.lv-connect.org
