07 Nov Record Turnout for 2022 VA 5K
Nearly 450 people took part in the 7th annual VA 5K on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at the Lexington VA Health Care System’s Franklin R. Sousley campus in Lexington. In addition to the record number of participants, there was also a record turnout of ROTC teams, led by the Perry County JROTC team with nearly 30 members. U.S. Army Veteran and Purple Heart recipient Cpl. Trampus Miller rode the course on horseback on behalf of the wounded and fallen. The race was dedicated to all Gold Star families to honor and remember all who have given their lives for our freedom. For the first time the 5K course took participants in front of the newly constructed Lexington Fisher House. Heartfelt thanks to all the race participants, both virtually and in-person, along with the sponsors and supporters, including the Kentucky National Guard and Lexington Fire Department. Proceeds from the event go toward construction costs of the Lexington Fisher House and the Lexington VA Health Care System, which targets specific needs for veterans served by the health care system. We look forward to your continued support at the 2023 VA 5K.
